Photojax 2011
Last night, we went to the opening of Photojax. It was pretty nice to see a large number of folks come out to support the photography community. There was a good variety of work, and a fair number of venues.
It seemed to be a UNF-focused event, as most of the local photographers exhibiting have some kind of connection to the school: current professors and students, as well as graduates. I believe it would be wise to expand the offering to include the other colleges in town (Ai Jax, FSCJ, JU). Perhaps a open call competition for students would be a healthy way for Photojax to encourage participation from emerging photographers.
I most enjoyed Walter Coker’s show at The Vault — straight-up, no-frills, amazing shots. The space is quiet, and lent itself to a more intimate experience. We bought a print called “Cabbage & Tater Festival/Hastings” — true photography.
